I may have found an easy fix for stick drift on xbox one controllers

So i was playing fallout 4 and during a cutscene i decided to press down on the right analog stick since it stops the up drift while holding it but i held it for a while ~30 seconds and the stick drift was gone completely i tried to play some other games and the stick drift was still gone

Yeah so ive done this before on mine, its a temporary fix and the drift came back for me after like 2 minutes

Yep. A similar temporary solution on the 360 was to spin the sticks in circles. I did it so much that it became a habit.

My xbox is still under warranty does it cover stick drift???

Depends. The controller is only supposed to have a 90 day warranty but if the console is still under warranty they may exchange the controller. I went to my local MS store with my controller & console s/n and they swapped one for me on the spot.

My Day one controller does this I don't want to send it in because i'm afraid they won't give the same controller back to me I had to send the Day One Console in because of a disk drive problem and I never got the same console back :'(

Go buy a new 3.5mm port Xbox One controller and swap out the Day One faceplate. Then you have a well built controller and Day One designation. Then take the Day One guts and new face plate, reassemble and trade it in at Ganestop. Problem solved.

Day One is but a label buddy. You shouldn't become so attached to a piece of plastic like that, no offense of course 😊

I was to the point of buying a new controller because of drift, so I took my controller and SLAMMED the problematic stick literally as hard as I could on the floor about 6 times and my drift was fixed.... For 20 minutes. Then it was back. Trash controllers. (´ｰ｀)

To be fair, it would be pretty amazing if beating a delicate piece of electronics against the floor 6 times fixed it up permanently

It's not the controllers. Stick drift will eventually happen with any controller that has analog sticks. The parts don't last forever...

i used to do this with the x360 controller, it was temporary for me

The stick drift is usually caused by plastic dust (from the thumbstick wearing against the shell of the controller) gumming up the analog mechanism that tracks the position of the thumbstick. I get it occasionally on my left thumbstick, and I fix it by prizing off the plastic piece on side of the controller grip, exposing the space between the circuit board and the shell, and blasting some canned air at the mechanism to clean it.

Why can't Microsoft get this figured out? PS controllers never have this issue.

Thanks for that explanation. I haven't had to deal with drift on my standard or elite but I know it's just a matter of time. When the time comes, your post will let me know what to look for.
